Fight With ToolsFLOBOTS Fight With Tools (2008 US 12-track CD album - the 2nd album from the alternative rock/hip hop band includes the singles Handlebars Stand Up and Rise. Presented in a sealed and stickered jewel case picture sleeve + picture slipcase)
Boys Don't CryThe soundtrack to Boys Don't Cry-- the true story of a young girl who assumed the identity of a boy to avoid the violence and crime of her past--includes everything from a haunting Bobby Fuller Four ballad ("A New Shade of Blue") to classic soul (the Isley Brothers' "Who's That Lady?") to revamped country (the members of X as their old-time country-band alter egos, the Knitters, performing Merle Haggard's "Silver Wings"). Also included are new tracks by '80s power-poppers the Smithereens and Shudder to Think guitarist Nathan Larson. Even more remarkable is the sultry new duet between Larson and the Cardigans' Nina Persson. Even weirder is the first new track in 11 years from original New York punk rockers the Dictators (a traditional barroom romp called "What's Up with That?"), which recalls the solo work of Dictator Scott Kempner more than the band's firepower of old). Round things off with Texas legend and ex-13th Floor Elevator Roky Erickson and a good-ol'-boy Lynyrd Skynyrd tune, and you've got a solid program without a bum steer (well, ok, just edit out Quicksilver Messenger Service's cover of "Who Do You Love?") --Rob O'Connor
Take The Weather With YouWhat you see is rarely what you get with Jimmy Buffett. While he may contend that he is the king of slackers, a modern day Dean Martin whipping up fizzy rum drinks under the palm trees in a silk Hawaiian shirt, this best-selling author and raconteur is actually the thinking man's party animal. His deceptively breezy lyrics and lazy charm belie a shrewd social commentator and a man not at peace with his world or his own mortality--taking well-aimed potshots at everything from cell phone culture to ancient Greek history to the threat of terrorism, as on the sharply ironic "Party at the End of the World." But having said that, all the unrest exhibited in these 14 songs makes for a far more interesting album than he's made in over two decades. Reflective, unstinting, and often nostalgic, the musician changes the tempo and the subject matter, swapping his usual languid island exhortations of alcohol and brief bikini tops for the fascinating emotional ambiguity of "Whoop De Doo," or the simple charm of "Nothing but a Breeze," which seems so autobiographical it's hard to believe that Buffett didn't write it. But the standout track is his chilling cover of Mary Gauthier's "Wheel Inside the Wheel," revealing exactly what kind of demons have been residing under the singer's ever-present baseball cap. --Jaan Uhelszki

Road HouseOne of those movies that helped usher out the era of action films that had plots that made any sense (and also helped reverse the direction of Patrick Swayze's career arc), Road House concerns a handsome, existential bouncer in a rinky-dink honky-tonk who owns both a degree in philosophy and a Mercedes. And that's perhaps the most believable aspect of the whole movie. Swayze stars as Dalton, "the best bouncer in the business," who runs afoul of Wesley (Ben Gazzara), the meanest SOB round these parts, by taking up with his former girlfriend, Doc (Kelly Lynch)--the only woman in town with an IQ approaching double digits, even if she had unfathomably hooked up with such a lowlife. Swayze had complained about being typecast as beefcake when this was made, but that didn't stop him from revealing as much skin as possible--even guys like him, as revealed in a luridly seedy scene in which one of Wesley's goons tells Dalton that he reminds him of the kind of boyfriend he had in prison (albeit in much saltier terms). It's so insulting to its audience that it's nice to be able to turn the tables and laugh at the filmmakers. --David Kronke
